I’ve only been to Salvador once so I don’t pretend to be an expert, but we did have a couple of really amazing experiences when we were there.

Paraíso Tropical (link | map): This lovely restaurant is a bit out of the way from the touristic centre of Salvador but it’s definitely worth the journey (it can also be worked into your route to/from the airport). Delicious fresh fruits (many from the restaurant’s garden) are worked into lovely drinks, but the real star is the seafood. We had a spectacular moqueca made with shaved coconut ‘tagliatelle’ strips and fresh dendê nuts. The soft-shell crabs were also amazing.

Sorriso de Dadá (link | map): I’ve seen mixed reviews of this place online but we had a really memorable meal and overall experience with Dadá and we loved the food. Expect all the Baiana classics – Moqueca, Xinxim de Galinha, vatapá, caruru and plenty more.
