love the food in Salvador – here are a few of my favourite places:

Paraíso Tropical (link | map): This lovely restaurant is a bit out of the way from the touristic centre of Salvador but it’s definitely worth the journey (it can also be worked into your route to/from the airport). Delicious fresh fruits (many from the restaurant’s garden) are worked into lovely drinks, but the real star is the seafood. We had a spectacular moqueca made with shaved coconut ‘tagliatelle’ strips and fresh dendê nuts. The soft-shell crabs were also amazing.

Bar Cruz do Pascoal (link | map): Lovely old bar, dating back to 1952, with a terrace and amazing view over the city and out to the bay. Try the arrumadinho.

Zanzibar (link | map): Gorgeous Afro-Brazilian fusion food with great service and a wonderful view.

Bar Koisa Nossa (link | map): A proper locals’ place – try the lambreta (clams).
