Get away from tourist traps and knock back some ice-cold beers with the locals. This super-popular bar often gets so busy that the sidewalk is crowded with happy drinkers, perching their beers on a spare bar stool and chatting away like their lives depend on it.
The absolute essential order is a portion of pataniscas de bacalhau, a potato-free version of the ubiquitous bolinho de bacalhau. These are delicious little salt cod fritters – add a few drops of fiery chilli oil and then down the hatch: delicious! Other highlights of the menu are the pastel de camarão and a huge rice and shrimp dish which is referred to as risotto (don’t expect a proper risotto, it’s just nice rice and shrimp dish).
If you want to see how the locals do bar culture, get down here on a Friday evening and immerse yourself. One of my favourites!
