WineHouse is my favourite place to drink wine in Rio. WineHouse led a renaissance of wine culture in Rio – a move away from starchy, elitist places serving unaffordable wines and a move towards friendly, unpretentious wine drinking for all!

Run by an Anglo-Brazilian couple, WineHouse is small but beautifully formed. The interior is cosy and nicely decorated and there is also outdoor seating – perfect for balmy Rio evenings. There is a blackboard which lists around a dozen wines by the glass and there are always some Brazilian varieties in the mix. The prices are very reasonable and get even better during Happy Hour (5-8pm, Mon-Sat). The food menu features lots of nibbly snacks and a few more substantial items – all good stuff for sharing.

In 2018, the WineHouse team opened a second, larger bar – Cru – which will be focusing on natural, bio-dynamic and organic wines!
