Melzinho!
Are you going on a long car journey anytime soon? When I was a kid it felt like we were always going on mammoth long car trips. My sister and I would be packed into the back seats of the car along with duvets, pillows, suitcases, camping gear and all kinds of other bits and pieces.
One of the things that made it bearable were Travel Sweets – specifically these Travel Sweets.
I’ve talked before about Brazil’s love of sugar, so it should come as no surprise that here they have their own sugary option for long car journeys. Melzinho!
Melzinho is not especially complicated – a long chain of plastic capsules filled with liquid honey.
That’s it basically – you start at one end, nibble through the plastic, suck out the sweet goodness, then move on to the next. Sounds like the perfect recipe for car journey contentment!
Oh, melzinho. Do they still exist ? I used to be addicted to them. Cannot forget the after taste of … polymers !
Hey Ana – they sure do! Heh heh – honey and plastic, a great flavour combination! :D
They are actually really pretty. I’m a food perv.
Alex, someone told me last night that sometimes the coloured ones are alcoholic. Pretty and lethal! ;)
Tom,
You gotta try the ones filled with “Doce de Leite”!!! :)
My favorites!
Ray
Bleurgh! ;) You are kidding me! The next logical step is to simply fill a drip with doce de leite and then hook it up to a vein! Actually I shouldn’t give you guys ideas…
