A boteco is a certain type of bar, especially beloved in Rio, where you can go for drinks, naturally, but also delicious snacks and some friendly banter. Some of the finest botecos in Rio are out in the neighbourhoods of Tijuca and Zona Norte – fine if you live out there, but if you’re based in Zona Sul then it can be quite a trip to get somewhere like Cachambeer for example.
Step forward Liga dos Botecos! This excellent Botafogo bar is like a ‘best of’ collection, where you can taste iconic bar food from some of the best botecos in Rio – Bar da Frente, Cachambeer, Botero and Bar do Momo. As well as the food there are great cocktails too. The original Liga was in Botafogo, but a new branch has now opened in Flamengo.
