I love Spanish food. London boasts some great Spanish restaurants and until I discovered Venga I found myself missing this wonderful cuisine here in Rio. I approached Venga with some trepidation – I love good Spanish food, but when it goes wrong it can be revolting.
Happily Venga was a lovely surprise – the menu is full of classics (Jamón Ibérico, Patatas bravas, Gambas al Ajillo, Tortilla, etc) and I’m delighted to say that they’re all really good. On top of that there are some really interesting twists that you might not see on every tapas menu – the Chocolate con aceite y sal (Chocolate with olive oil and salt – pictured) is really good.
Wine is usually expensive in Brazil and it is no different at Venga – they have a great list, but if you’re watching your spending then the sangria is a good alternative option (lots of fruit, not too sweet).
Last time I checked, Venga had restaurants in Ipanema, Leblon and Copacabana (use google for up to date locations)
