Beach Trader Barter

We’ve been having some great weather in Rio recently. I felt I should mention it to balance things up because I do like to complain when it’s bad. We decided to spend Saturday on the beach and I finally got round to recording a little audio. When I got home I realised it was pretty terrible quality, so instead of subjecting you to some fuzzy noise, I decided to get a little multimedia on your asses and put the sound of the beach in the background to this rather sweet little scene I witnessed:

Should you put a ring on it?

A little while back I mentioned a walk along the beach at Ipanema – the volleyball and slacklining, the hotties and the notties lounging on the beach. But the thing that really got me that day was the people (or to be more specific, the women) wandering along the pavement (sidewalk) next to the beach.

It is important to wear the correct protective clothing when rollerblading…

Another Great Thing About Rio

Dotted at regular intervals along the busiest beaches in Rio, you will find little exercise stations. These include various parallel bars designed for pull-ups, chin-ups and various other strenuous exercise. These tend to be frequented by muscled up guys (of which there are plenty) who seem to enjoy the opportunity for some public flexing (of course I’m neither bitter nor jealous…).

Bit of eye-candy for anyone into this kind of guy. Personally I think he looks like he needs to eat a sandwich...

But although the great thing to which I refer in this post’s title is related to exercise, it is not designed for the beach posers. I am actually talking about free, open-air gyms designed specifically for what the Brazilians call the Terceira Idade (literally ‘third age’, meaning elderly).

Skimpy hotties, wrinkly oldies and everything inbetween

The ‘ideal’ body is a very subjective thing. Where one guy sees a complete hotty, someone else takes one look and says “she needs to eat a sandwich“. Some women like their guys a little on the tubby side (for these women I am thankful), others prefer the chiselled abdominizer model. And of course there are men and women who are into men and women respectively. Well whatever you’re into, you’ll see it on the beach in Rio. And they won’t leave much to the imagination!

Regardless of body-shape or age, Brazilian women prefer a very skimpy cut to their bikinis – both top and bottom. When the film Rio came out here, there was quite a big fuss that the derrière in the trailer was wearing a very conservative bikini:

Seriously, there were articles in the newspaper about this split-second shot and how it wasn’t an accurate representation of Carioca beachwear because it wasn’t revealing enough!

The things you see at the beach

A few days ago I found myself strolling down the famous black and white tiled path that runs alongside the beach in Ipanema. I hadn’t been along that way in a while and I was reminded of what a great place it is for people watching.

The iconic black and white pathways of Ipanema
