Mixing Mangoes with Milk

After hosting Rachel’s guest post just a few days ago, the karmic wheel of blog has come full circle and today I guest posted at Street Smart Brazil! I have to say I’m pretty excited – as far as I can recall it’s my first ever guest post! I’m sure many of you will already be familiar with SSB (like all best-buds, we’re on acronymic terms now), but if not, I’d love it if you’d pop over and say hello, check out my humble offering (which will explain the image below). I think it represents an absolutely fascinating insight into one small part of Brazilian history. Not a particularly nice part of Brazilian history to be fair, but interesting how something from so many years ago still survives today. Intrigued? I hope so!

I had no idea that Brazilians thought this about such an innocent (and tasty) combination. Great new knowledge!

Funny isn’t it? I originally heard something about the combination being bad luck here in Brazil, but didn’t think much of it. Then out of nowhere, the top boss at my work started telling me about it last week. He was just chatting and didn’t notice that I was making notes as he spoke! :D

lmao This brings back so many memories from my childhood. We had a mango tree at grandma’s house, and it would basically rain mangos in the backyard all year round. She’d always tell me and my cousins not to mix manga with milk, or to drink milk after eating manga and vice versa =) I’m surprised I still remember this, it’s been so long since I moved to Japan as a kid and she passed away some time after that. My dad knows it’s just a myth but to this day he won’t take his chances either hahaha

It’s a great blog you have here ^^ I’ll make sure to bookmark it to my favorites ;)

Hi Cindy! Ha ha! I’ve been seeing a lot of stories like this – everyone says they know it’s just a myth, but there are a lot of people who still won’t drink it! :D

Have you been back to Brazil since moving away?

It’s true, mangoes just plop down from backyard trees and here I pay dearly for them. I’m envious!
