I’m moving back to London

Hello everyone. I’ve been a little lazy with the blogging recently so I thought that even though I haven’t had time to prepare anything interesting, I should at least post a quick update. As the post title suggests, I’m leaving Brazil! I’ll fly back to London at the end of the month.

All together now: "Leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again..." - I snapped this plane taking off from Santos Dumont airport last night.

Things to do in Rio…

It’s coming up on 2 years that I’ve been living in Rio and during that time I’ve had quite a few visitors. It’s been great having friends and family come over and hang out in my new home town – a chance to catch up on news from home and remind myself how nice it is to chat with someone whose first language is English. As each visitor has come and gone, I’ve noticed the same questions coming up again and again. Is Rio safe? Can you recommend a restaurant or a place to stay? What are the good things to do in Rio?

Well, I thought that rather than just telling my visitors, why not put my suggestions and recommendations on Eat Rio for everyone to see? I thought it would be a fun project to make a collection of all my favourite places, to gather together details, photos and specific recommendations. And so I have begun!

This is my first recommendation under the “Things to do” category.

Milestones

Ever had one of those moments when you realise you recently strolled obliviously through a milestone? Well, I just noticed yesterday that I have now 102 posts (103 if you include this one). There I was, waffling on about my bedroom walls and using that as a tenuous excuse to show you my photos of flowers, when I should actually have been playing a fanfare about the fact that I was writing my centurion post!

I believe that it is traditional to use an occasion such as this to do some big retrospective about what has changed since you wrote your first post, where you want to be this time next year, all that kind of stuff. I don’t know though – it strikes me as a little self-important. I will say that I have enjoyed writing this blog, it’s been really nice making contact with people (some I knew before from back home, others I’ve never met, but who hang out here with me in Blogland), and it’s kind of flattering that you guys can be bothered to come back and read what I have to say once in a while.

The presence of this is explained at the end of the post. Piqued your curiosity? Good, so read on.

Verdict?

So, what do you think? Please be kind! I’ve been mulling over the idea of a move away from blogger for a while and decided today was the day to finally take the plunge.

There are a few  things I should say:

  • Take a look at the top-left of the page – you should see the Feedburner,  Twitter and Facebook icons. Click these to get fully EatRio connected – all the cool kids are doing it!
  • There may be one or two broken links in my old posts – Blogger and WordPress do things a little differently and I need to check through every old post to iron out a couple of probleminhas. If you spot anything that isn’t working, I would be eternally grateful if you tell me about it.
  • big thank-you to my very talented sister who single-handedly did all the fancy design stuff you see here.

Tidying up and moving…

Hi everyone!

Just a quick post today as we had a party last night and I’ve been clearing up and cleaning the house all day. Here is a photo taken from our balcony yesterday as we were preparing for the party – dramatic right?

Split sky

The rain and clouds were moving away, to the right. Does the rainbow (on the left) look a bit fake? I promise it isn’t! We hoped it would be a good omen that the storm clouds were leaving us in time for the party, but unfortunately there was plenty more rain to come. Luckily the birthday girl got so drunk she didn’t notice!
